Background
During the pandemic, the Japan Information & Culture Center was closed to the public. I was hired to activate the window space of the center and create the display for an exhibition on Japanese lacquerware and ceramics. I incorporated the colors of the ceramics and lacquerware into my design and created a plan to display the shou sugi wooden backdrop, posters, and work harmoniously.
The Problem Space
How might we create an engaging exhibit despite not allowing visitors into the gallery due to COVID-19 concerns?
The Result
The exhibit received positive feedback from gallery employees and visitors. It also served as a way to create a physical connection with people in the DC area that wasn't a virtual event.

Wall Panels
These panels accompanied examples of Minoyaki pottery and Joboji Urushi lacquerware.
